Training Programs

Overview

Florida has two levels of certification for prehospital providers: EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic. Florida has over 61,500 certified EMTs and Paramedics. EMTs and Paramedics provide pre-hospital care for the citizens and visitors of Florida.

There are currently 70 schools offering  175 state approved initial training programs (.pdf  136.43kb/18pages) for individuals desiring to become certified as EMTs and Paramedics in the state of Florida.

Students will be trained to a national standard to enter the workforce as an entry level provider.

Requirements of EMS training programs:

  1. Meet all applicable requirements of  the Florida Department of Education
  2. Submit a complete application for becoming a Florida approved EMS training center
  3. Successfully demonstrate documentation of course requirements as outlined in Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code and National Standard Curricula during on-site visit for each location
